Best Tennis Courts in Chiang Mai

Best for: Pickup games and volume of courts

The main public tennis hub north of town. About a dozen floodlit hard courts plus a practice wall, with a steady stream of locals, expats, and visitors in the morning and late afternoon. Walk-up play is the culture here — show up, look for an open court or a hitting partner, and stay as long as you like. There is usually an on-site tennis shop for balls, stringing, and shoes. If you want the biggest chance of finding a game in Chiang Mai, start at 700 Years.

Thailand’s oldest sports club (1898), east of the Ping River, with two recently upgraded floodlit hard courts plus golf, squash, and a classic clubhouse under rain trees. Guest policy and fees should be confirmed with the club office. Gymkhana is about atmosphere more than pickup volume.

Campus courts on the Suthep side of town, used by students, staff, and the wider local community. Public / guest access is not as straightforward as a municipal stadium — treat this as a campus facility first.

The closest major public courts to the Old City — six outdoor hard courts behind the US Consulate and Muang Mai Market. Courts are older but playable.

Best for: Social sessions and events

A multi-sport club in Mae Hia that the Chiang Mai community uses for social singles and doubles. Courts sit in a quieter neighbourhood south-west of town, with evening play under lights. If you want organised hitting rather than a walk-up pickup scene, North Arena is one of the best places to join a session, meet regulars, and get on the rankings.

Best for: Lessons and junior academy

A small two-court academy in Mae Rim with a strong local reputation for coaching — especially juniors — and a quiet mountain setting. Peak hours are often reserved for lessons, so this is not a pickup venue. Nut’s coaches also partner with Triple Ace. If you want instruction rather than a social hit, this is one of the names Chiang Mai players recommend.

A bookable covered court in Mae Hia — useful when you already have a hitting partner and want a reserved slot that still works in the rain. Easy Grab from Nimman or the Old City compared with Mae Rim.

Chiang Mai’s newest dedicated tennis club (opened 2024) sits about 15 minutes south-east of the Old City. Full-size hard courts under a membrane roof, LED lighting, and indoor ball-machine lanes make it the reliable option when the afternoon storm rolls in. Full courts are typically members-first; ball-machine lanes are more open to visitors. ITF-certified coaches work with Nut Tennis Academy on site.

Best for: Quiet club hitting in Hang Dong

A Hang Dong sports complex with a handful of outdoor hard courts. It is more of a local club setting than a tourist walk-up spot, and lighting is limited, so plan for daylight. Players in the south/west of town use World Club for rankings matches and friendly hitting when they want a quieter alternative to 700 Years.
